DrupalCon Portland 2013: SASS - OO'S'CSS W/EXTENDS AND SILENT PLACEHOLDERS

49:34 · 20 May 2013 – 24 May 2013 · YouTube

About this talk

This talk explores the challenges faced with Object-Oriented CSS (OOCSS) concepts, particularly the proliferation of presentational classes and their application to the DOM. The speaker discusses how Sass attempts to tackle these issues first through Mixins and then Extends, each presenting problems with duplicated or unnecessary code. With the introduction of Sass 3.2, the concept of 'silent classes' is presented, which allows the creation of standardized presentational classes that remain dormant until they are extended in the application. The session also includes bonus material on creating Placeholder Objects that can easily inherit values from a global configuration.
