From Spreadsheets to "Everything as Code" — Joel Studler and Jéremy Weber

This talk presents Swisscom's journey towards cloud-native readiness and the significant technology and cultural transformation involved. The speaker discusses the adoption of a GitOps approach, which replaces traditional spreadsheets and provides access to DevOps best practices, including version control and continuous integration and deployment for both infrastructure and applications. Key technologies showcased include Kubernetes, Flux, Ansible, GitLab, and Grafana, all utilized for automating the deployment, configuration, and testing of 5G network functions. The presentation highlights how advanced templating practices and a "try fast and fail fast" mindset have been pivotal in addressing challenges and enhancing the instantiation, configuration, and lifecycle management of 5G core services.
