DrupalCon Dublin 2016: Faster and More Scalable than Memcache/Redis: Tiered Storage with LCache

This talk addresses the challenges of scalable caching in Drupal, highlighting issues with Memcache sharding and Redis clustering. The speaker introduces LCache, a library and module designed to enhance performance by utilizing database storage for canonical cache and coherency management while leveraging APCu for local caching. With a focus on operational simplicity and improved efficiency, the presentation explores the coherency protocol, benchmarks, and the unit testing model for cache coherency. Additionally, the speaker advocates for the adoption of this method as the default cache implementation in future versions of Drupal.
