Keynote: Awards Ceremony (ASL)

Good morning. You thought Lynn was loud. I'm George. Nice to meet you. Give me some energy this morning. All right. All right. I'm an I'm a project maintainer emeritus and now I tell the stories of the fantastic work that our end users are doing with the projects built by our maintainers. So please stop by the project pavilion and talk to a maintainer. They are aching to show

you the cool stuff that they're working on. Our most valuable asset is the community. In the past 10 years, there are over 300,000 open source contributors. People often tell me, "George always forgets my name." There are 300,000 of you. 190 countries across 200 projects. Our community is diverse and global. These awards are designed to highlight the incredible work that our contributors do every single day. Let's start

by honoring some of the organizations who work with our projects to bring the value and quality of cloud native software into production. First we're going to talk about the top end user award. So what is an end user? An end user is an organization where their core business relies on the cloud native tech. They use it, not sell it. So, first of all, a few changes. In

order to spread the love moving forward, the CNCF will announce both the previous year's winner and announce the new winner here at Cloud or KubeCon CloudNativeCon Europe, largest event of the year. Look around. I don't know if you noticed yesterday, this is the largest open source conference in human history, right here. You're here. Give yourselves a hand. And in case you weren't with us in Atlanta, let's

Uh so, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to our incredible journey uh with Cloud Native at SNCF. And uh our first KubeCon was in 2019. And uh at that time, we were Cloud Naive mostly uh with only five

clusters running. And it was easy, you know, there was only 30 30 applications under the CNCF graduation process. Um and we had a crazy bet at that time. We Iana is with me here today. That one day we will go on the main stage at KubeCon. So, here we are. Okay, it's 7 years later, but you know, we are a train company, so you should expect some

delays. I'm joking. I'm joking. We are not an airline company. So, anyway, uh uh we are here for quite a long now and uh living all the cloud native revolutions and trying to figure out how we're going to implement it at scale. Uh, I'd like to thank all the speakers of the so many conferences we have attended uh during all these years um sharing ideas of what's

working, what's not, the fine-tuning, the crazy architectures. So valuable and so inspiring. uh even if the world goes crazy, never stop sharing. That's very, very, very important. Uh, and keep doing it. Uh, I also like to thank all the maintainers of the the great CNCF projects. Uh, I'm going to list every one of you so you just tell me if I I miss someone. No, I'm joking.

It's going to be too long, very boring. But you deserve it. the few very few partners we're working with. And uh last but not least, the organizers of this great event. you rock. Now I'd like to talk about the individuals who are working hard every day on these fantastic projects. First, I'd like to talk about last year's outstanding mentor. We have We spent so much time in our mentorship programs and ensuring that we're we're bringing that next generation in into the community. Uh, so first, a round of applause for last year's outstanding mentor, Lee. And this year's winner is

Hadatty. A dedicated and consistent mentor for the Wasm Edge project. Hadai has demonstrated a deep multi-year commitment to focusing on new open source contributors through the LFX mentorship program. Actively guiding mentees and ensuring that a high standard of program accountability, his hands-on approach and project advocacy help new contributors successfully integrate in our cloud native ecosystem. Thank you. Next up, we have the TAGs. So, what is a

TAG? Um, their job is to help advance the CNCF's technical advisory groups, also known as TAGs. These governance structures are crucial to the community, ensuring that our software and processes continue to set that high standard for scalability. And we have to do it while retaining integrity and increasing that quality in support of our mission to make cloud native ubiquitous. This year's TAGs, give them a hand. Hi.
