k6 v2.0 launched — with AI-assisted test authoring built in from the ground up. This GrafanaCON talk is the official announcement, complete with a live demo where Claude Code generates a full test suite in five minutes with zero prior knowledge of the app under test.
Andrey and Théo open with the case that AI is accelerating code delivery while driving a reported 1000% increase in vulnerabilities — making testing no longer a nice-to-have but the only safety net. k6 v2.0 responds by treating AI as a first-class feature: three new subcommand extensions — agent, mcp, and docs — configure any agentic workflow (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) with k6 skills, references, and an embedded MCP server that lets agents validate and run scripts without any additional installation. A live demo on play.grafana.org shows Claude generating five tests — browser, functional, and load — from a plain-language prompt, including automatically-defined performance thresholds. Beyond AI, v2.0 ships a Playwright-inspired assertions API that moves k6 from "did it crash?" to "did it do exactly what I expected?", an extension catalog with official and community tiers plus automatic dependency resolution, machine-readable OpenTelemetry output, a new GitHub Action for CI integration, and k6-operator v1.0 for distributed Kubernetes-scale load testing.
