Aveiro Living Lab: A communication, sensing, and computing platform for smart-cities

This talk presents the Aveiro Living Lab, a city-scale open platform designed to integrate communication, sensing, and computing for smart city experimentation. Duarte Raposo from the Instituto de Telecomunicações discusses how this infrastructure enables real-time data collection and processing through distributed sensing nodes connected by fibre networks, Wi-Fi, 5G, and LoRaWAN. The architecture employs a cloud-native approach with microservices and container orchestration, facilitating the management of data pipelines and analytics for various applications like mobility analytics and smart parking. This session emphasizes the importance of interoperability and openness, allowing multiple services to operate on a shared infrastructure while integrating emerging technologies such as AI analytics and digital twins.
