Welcome ladies and gentlemen. Um this is the closing panel with the grand title of AI, the future of us. I'm Vesco Ernov. I um lead the local AI development team at VMware now Broadcom and I have the pleasure of being a host of this panel tonight and with us it's a privilege to have four incredible professionals with you with us uh to talk to. So we have
uh Quapov CEO and founder of Fastrackk. [clears throat] Please welcome um also Sutlav Pasov um executive director KPng networks. We have um of course Bislav Slav, composer and um our musical director Lurian Studios and you probably already know Hamza Mulier who had a lovely lecture earlier but also the founder of Strategizing. So, all right. Here's how we're going to play it tonight. Let's start off with a
short take, maybe one or two sentences. I want to set each of you to give me the lens through which we'll anchor this conversation for for later. We'll try to get into maybe two or three topics. We'll try to solicit. I know that you probably you have some questions. So, let's do a short take, then maybe deep dive, and then we we see how we wrap up.
All right. So, for the lens, can each of you give me um a little bit of what keeps you awake at night? Um in regards to AI, maybe something good, you're waiting for something, maybe something that's, you know, making you feel uneasy. Um Boris, do you mind if we start with you? >> Okay. Good evening, everyone. Well, let me think for an instant. Um, I suffer insomnia
and um, I tend to think about the moment when AI will give me the chance to feed in a private learning machine server. All the music that I comp have composed and produced for the past 25 years. And then on the following morning I just wake up press a button and say compose me something in my style of the early 2020 and within few seconds it generates
10 versions that I can present to my boss. >> All right, [laughter] would you mind if you go next? >> Hu would you mind? >> Yeah. >> Uh I sleep well irrespective of AI. >> Okay. Uh but I have three beliefs. Uh the first one is there will not be a single job that AI will not be able to replace. Uh number two, we are not able
to switch AI off. Uh and number three, I think it is stupid to believe we can predict what AI will do in the future. That wouldn't I mean me that would make me have insomnia like Bobby. All right. Uh Hamza. Um uh so I'm generally an optimist. So um I I I don't wake up in the night sort of thinking of the Terminator. Like that's that's not
what gets me going. I think the stuff it's mostly business stuff that keeps me sort of quizzical. So one of the things is this that uh if you are in AI if you are in the artificial intelligence business you are invariably both a collaborator and a competitor with open AI. So every time bloody Sam Alman says something great is going to come up in two days time.
I'm like Jesus here we go again because it means that I have to catch up. And so the optimist in me is hoping that Sam Altman will not uh lead us to catastrophe or his kind won't lead us to catastrophe. That's my optimism. But I think in terms of day-to-day stress, it's usually whatever we are building is it going to be obsolete tomorrow? And that that's a
real danger. >> All right. What about us? >> I look at it from two different perspectives. Uh professionally I'm super hyped and excited and personally I'm a bit concerned why I'm so hyped professionally. I've never seen such a factor for growth. It's absolutely transformative technology and being a technology consulting organization now we are dealing with a lot of new demand new type of services that clients are
requesting etc. And I do believe that we have a window of opportunity in the next few years to grow all of us in the IT sector. And what keeps me up at night? Personally, I know AI is going to be a dramatic change in terms of uh social economic construct and I have two little kids and I have to think in perspective. So I'm wondering how do
I better prepare them for the life that is coming ahead for both of them. >> This is very good. We'll I think we'll get to that. Now the one thing I love about this panel is we have people here from coming from the domain of of art. We have leadership. we have enterprise um we have strategy and also academia is your former background so this multi-dommain thing
AI applies very differently but I'm sure that there are misconceptions and nuances that most people when they think about AI in your respective domains for example um um there is parts that are misunderstood about how this is going to affect it um would you mind talking a a little bit about what you feel from your perspective AI is misunderstood as you see it dayto-day. Um Christ you
want to start. >> So the question is what are the main misunderstandings about AI? >> Yeah according to you >> I think the main misunderstanding about AI is that you need IT teams to develop Uh I think the biggest game changer is now we are all IT people. uh whatever jobs you do, you take decisions. Whatever jobs you do, if you're a taxi driver, you take decisions.
If you're a surgeon, you take decisions. If you're pilot, you take decisions. AI can facilitate decision-m process at any level just using LLM period. So this is the first misconception. We are all AI and AI we don't need to go to huge AI trainings. We need to know the decisions and the processes that impact our job and we can implement and improve decision- making tomorrow. So this
for me is the first misconception. And the second is everybody I talk to almost all professions say yeah yeah but not my job. AI will impact everything but I'm a taxi driver. It's not going to happen. Or I'm a surgeon. It's not going to happen. Or we had this discussion. I'm an artist. It's not going to happen to me. So I think people have the wrong misconception
that the speed of development of AI will leave an area that's only dedicated for the human. If the trajectory stays the same, I cannot foresee a single area where human can outperform AI. Even if we talk about sensitives like stuff like emotions, empathy and know it's it's at the end it's all physics and you guys know that we can decompose physics into numbers. Uh emotions into numbers.
It's it's facial expressions. It's emotions are decomposible into into numbers. If it is decomposible into numbers, AI will screw us up. We are creating something that is smarter than us and we think ah it's going to be 100 times smarter. It will know 100 times more but I'm going to control it. Really? That's interesting. And I would normally I would I would uh throw the bow at
at uh Bobby because what you said specifically about transforming emotions in numbers and and how do you see that? Uh well I think that uh contrary to the popular belief I don't believe that uh from artistic point of view and specifically from music prediction point of view that uh AI introduces danger. I am personally very excited about AI and let me tell you uh briefly why. Uh
now we are witnessing an incredible new technologies and companies that uh give us a chance to produce a brand new piece of music um as an input from our few words from us. But um what really makes me excited about AI is that finally I will be able to quickly explore new directions and new styles within few seconds because let me tell you something from a music
composition and prediction point of view the most exciting the most enjoyable part is the first 10 minutes. So when I compose a brand piece of m a brand new piece of music, a brand new song, I feel excited and I know that the ultimate test is if I feel excited. This means that the audience out there is going to be excited as well or at least a
good part of it. Then the very tedious and slow process of producing this very piece of music starts. We are very close to the moment when I will be able to just give my brand new composition to the beautiful AI tools and say you know what how about give me a version in the style of Chaikovski Shustakovich or maybe Mozer maybe I want like any one of
those >> then I decide that this is not my cup of tea and I would like to explore a different direction and I will start this creative conversation with my AI personal machine learning server only to realize some point that I will get these beautiful points to build my own foundation. But ultimately me as a human being will decide where I would like to go because as
I said earlier to Christo the ultimate test whether my music will be well appreciated or not is whether it makes me excited if I am passionate about it. And I believe that again popular to the uh to contrary to the popular belief I do not believe that AI is danger for us. There will always be need and hunger for genuine human art. This is what I believe.
>> Okay. So you wanted to ask and then I'll >> I have a question. Uh I understand that you listen to a piece of music and it excites you. So if I accumulate the last 50 pieces of music that have excited you, do you think I'll be able to trace a pattern something in common? That's something they have in common. >> Absolutely. Yes. And this is the
second part that I uh missed to to tell you guys. So when it AI is very powerful when it comes to making derivative products, you know what I mean? We have plenty of good beautiful pieces of music. Currently, we came to the point when I can just tell AI, I want a brand new album in the style of Bonjovi because I love Bonjovi, but I'm very tired
of all the other 25 albums that I've been listening for 35 years. Within a minute, I will have a brand new album which will absolutely on par with all these beautiful greatest hits. This is totally uh the point and I and I get your point. However, what AI cannot do and I believe we will not be able to do at least in the foreseeable future. They cannot
innovate on behalf of our uh um uh ourselves. They cannot tell us if they cannot come up with something. They can invent something new. Don't get me wrong. This is you know the silver lining the most important thing. They they can invent a lot of new never heard never seen stuff but can they can not tell us whether we are going to appreciate those or not. they
can only make an well educated guess based on these huge database uh information servers. Ultimately if the next motored comes and joins us on on stage and um presents the next beautiful genius symphony never heard never seen before out of the uh you know the the node music theory only you beautiful people will be able to say yes I love this or no this is not my
cup of tea. But Bobby, yes, this is this is great. But um I'm actually going to jump to Hamza because you talked about getting rid of CEOs earlier uh today. >> Yeah, including myself. >> Would you agree? Would you agree that AI systems like that wouldn't be able to kind of you know tell us what we'd like because I I see a little bit of a clash
or in any case what do you think is misunderstood? >> Um you a I think AI does novel stuff. So we run we run labs, we run benchmarks and uh the the the state-of-the-art models are coming up with new inventions all the time including in our company. So I I I don't think that novelty is that novel anymore. I think on the two things uh about whether
uh what is being misunderstood I think the first thing which is misunderstood when people think of AI is this that you can leave the hand off the steering wheel. uh you can't if you're vibe coding whatever you're building with it if you think you can just say two lines and and that's about it uh you'll produce uh slop and there will always be slop being produced so
I think that's the first thing is that if you are good at your job then you would want to manage your artificial intelligence assistant the way you would manage a junior in your team you will doublech checkck their work you will tell them the direction so I think that's the first misunderstanding. Autopilot is not is not the way to go if you're looking for greatness. The second
thing is the the question it's a philosophical question that how do you manage something which is 100 times smarter than you. And the answer for that is like one of the godfathers of of uh artificial intelligence is a Cambridge University professor. His name is Jeffrey Hinton. And uh he created a lot of um he created the transformer model that we now know. And uh he was asked
the same question and he gave a very good answer. He said what in the what happens in the natural world um where um something which is 100 times dumber is not hunted and consumed by something which is 100 times smarter. And the answer to that is parents. Babies are incredibly stupid and are um able to die like babies die like this, right? So um we the one
of the reasons that we have had uh low average age say 200 300 years ago was not because people were not living long it was so many babies were dying. So the I think the answer to the question is a philosophical one. Um in our uh agents uh we do have a couple of lines which they never expose to the to the to the user but that
line is uh depending on the gender of the agent is either paternal or maternal and so far uh I mean so far they've not burned the house down so we'll find out. >> That's what's your take? Uh I think the biggest misconception right now and and I absolutely share what my colleagues are saying here is the fear that AI will start cutting jobs immediately. That's actually not
supported by data at the moment. Even though investments have tripled in the last few years, it shows that 90 plus% of CEOs are planning to hire actually more people. So on one hand side AI is going to reduce repetitive tasks in the near future but it's going to enable non- tech professionals basically to use new technology to build new solutions to generate new businesses and we already
see new roles being uh established on the market that simply didn't exist a few years ago. So I think yes there is going to be a hyper automation happening across all sectors of the industry but I think there is going to be a huge amount of entirely new roles that simply didn't exist yesterday and I think AI is going to be the democratizing technology that will allow
non- tech professionals to actually build new solutions and start new companies. >> Super you make a great point which I wanted to actually piggyback on next which is what breaks next. I mean in each of we've seen many pilots in proof of concepts of of AI systems um in AI I see it with u with our customers but to move from experiment to a larger um to
production to enterprise to deploy to scale up um is a leap. So what do you think is the next barrier or jump that we'll have to to do? Uh maybe we'll need um additional tooling or or a new mindset. I don't know. Do you mind you know continuing? Um >> I I personally think that in the last few years we were kind of dipping our toes into
this new technology and this new play thing etc. So everyone was super hyped around chat GPT all the businesses all our customers started saying we need AI. They didn't know exactly what they needed for. They knew that they wanted to invest. They were fearing not to be outperformed by the competition. But now we see that uh they're actually starting to uh come up with better ideas. They
know how to use the technology. They know how to invest etc. But now the biggest challenge is how to prepare uh their employees, how to prepare for kind of the work model of the future. Uh so I think this is going to be the next big thing, the next big challenge that uh we have to address. >> Okay. Yeah, >> I have two empirical evidences on this
topic. Uh the first we have developed an agent that helps us to keep our finger on the pulse of jobs creation. Uh so every week it's summarizing uh all the jobs that would disappear from AI and all the jobs that would be created by AI. Guess which report is longer? >> The jobs that disappear >> about 100 to one. So this is one evidence. The second is
over the last I think 12 months uh we have helped maybe over 100 companies in different countries to implement AI uh and we did a project to measure improvement of efficiency. Improvement of efficiency across the board is over 35%. Which means I'm going to do the same job with 35% less people or I can increase the business by 35%. Guess what is the decision they take? Let
me reduce the stuff. I can give an example. We work with the second biggest advertising group in in Central America. They reduce their creative stuff by 85% within 3 months. Zero loss of productivity. Now you tell me how to reskill these copyriters. We have a company producing cosmetics uh uh in Italy uh and they had 35% of their in their R&D team with baby introduction of AI
now they have seven. So tell me how to reskill the people who don't they don't eat now and if we assume that AI will develop with the speech is developing. If we assume that agents will develop by definition an agent will know more and will be able to do a better job than any human. So yes, you're going to rescue these people to do this. What? Yeah,
but some jobs uh uh surgeons now you know the reports diagnostic by AI is better than diagnostic by doctors. Period. Pilots, you know that an airplane is 95% driven by an AI. Banks, you know, you apply to a loan to BU bank, you know that this nine out of 10 times decision is taken by AI. So which of the jobs I'm keen to see in the that
the human capability will outperform AI and I would ignore all the human biases. I would ignore all the I want a four weeks, I want this holiday and I want this package compared to an and I it doesn't matter if you're optimistic or pessimistic. give me a case and I'm keen to explore these opportunities for reskilling and new jobs. The World Bank came with a report there
will be this this many new jobs. McKenzie said Axentia said >> Hamza this is in your rally because you have that list. I mean to be fair like uh McKenzie in 1998 said that uh in the US the number maximum number of phones that will be sold is going to be 90,000. So not exactly winning any awards for um forecasting. Let's put it this way. So Mckenzie
says stuff which is useful for Mckenzie. Um I will not uh I do not take it and I also don't take academia on face value. We say stuff that serves us. Everything is political. I I think that um this is something I touched upon in the morning is we all assume that technology will magically get upgraded that there is someone somewhere in Silicon Valley running like a
hamster in a wheel pushing things forward. That's not true. You need billions of dollars and tens of thousands of people to push the technology forward. >> That is for the >> that's not the challenge. The challenge is our ability to >> let me let me complete my thought process and then you can challenge. Uh what I'm saying is this that >> the the scary part is the
lack of control or the lack of agency that we have in the future that we are headed towards. The point I'm trying I was trying to make was not about new jobs or old jobs or whether replacement or whether there needs to be a universal income or you know we should all become hippies. I'm not saying any of those things. I don't know the answers for that.
What I'm saying is that specifically for the people in this room, people like you and yourself are actually in charge of the future right here, right now. So you will build. Now the question is this that what will you build and who will you build it for? And now is a incredible time that you have frontier level knowledge accessible to you. You have agents that are running
at $10 for a million tokens and you know this gentleman is making award-making music without spending probably tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands with musicians and whatn not and giving joy to everybody in the world. I don't see him dying hungry, right? And I don't see other musicians dying hungry right now. So I think the point I'm trying to make is that yes it is scary.
>> But the really cool thing is we are still in charge. So while I agree with you there will be suffering. There is always suffering with new technology. Disruption produces suffering. Absolutely. And I'm not underplaying that. But saying that we are now on the back seat and somehow this magical machine is going to drive us into oblivion. I think we have a little more control than that
at least at this stage. The word suffering from my perspective is scary and beautiful at the same time. >> Exactly. The first thing that comes to mind when I look back in time, I remember about the so-called industrial revolution. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but uh I believe that uh our grandfathers witnessed a very similar situation when you know the so-called industrial revolution was so scary and
so frightening for all the people for the all the ordinary people. They were breaking the machines and instead of adapting, instead of educating themselves, instead of finding a way how to put these new machines to their aid, they were fighting and trying to break those. And I believe that more or less we are witnessing a very similar situation from my perspective when it comes to entertainment, art
and music. In particular, in my case, uh there are two parts for my for myself and my colleagues colleagues. question is, do we want to produce music and entertainment faster regardless the quality and hoping that this way we're going to save money or we would like to use the AI to keep the same tempo, the same speed but improve the quality to explore more and at the
end of the day to come up with something that's going to move the people even more than the previous piece of art of ours. So I'd like to to think the second uh you know to follow the second approach and that's why I think that yes there will be suffering but to avoid suffering and to turn it into a life is beautiful experience we just need to
educate ourselves and everyone around ourselves >> right >> no no on my side I absolutely fully agree with you actually I agree with both of you there are going to be certain roles certain positions that will simply disappear uh from the market. But uh fully agree talking to the audience uh here I think you should be more excited than afraid but there is change coming. I think
you should invest a lot to prepare yourself to have adequate skill set for the future. So yeah it will require some effort. It will require some change. It will require some open-mindedness. But uh I'm I'm personally excited for what comes next in technology and IT. So one more one more quick take um to kind of uh wrap up and I do want to open the mic because
I'm sure our audience might have questions for for you. Very interesting discussion based on that based on that and um here maybe we can start with you because what you said about any and every job being affected um along with some of the echoes afterwards that we are still in control. If you had to choose, do we step on the pedal and uh if we could accelerate,
you know, AI adoption aggressively, even with risk, um versus, step on a little bit the break until we get more guards rail, until we figure stuff out, stay in control. What what stance do you you recommend? >> I'm afraid the question is irrelevant. >> Uh if you ask me, I would say AI. uh unfortunately it's not possible and we have another agent that tracks everyday new developments
AI and also tracks everyday new developments on safeguarding AI. Guess how many awardwinning discoveries we have on safeguarding AI? >> Unfortunately I know the answer to that. >> Zero. So where the money goes into safeguarding AI or developing AI? where the brain goes into safeguarding AI or or or protect or or developing AI. I mean the genie is out of the bottle and we should be stupid
to fall in our nice human emotional patterns and impose our nice human emotional patterns on something that is not nice, human and emotional. >> Talking about jobs, what is a job? A job is you need to get some information. You need to elaborate the information and take a decision. Now take some information, elaborate and take a decision. Which of these three components a human will do better
than an AI? Can you give me a job? >> Anyone >> about I'm really unsure what the position is. >> We can't put the genie back in the bottle, I guess. But um >> I I think Europe has an obsession with regulation and safety and that is a problem. I think generally it's a problem because um what we are effectively doing is this that we are putting
a lot of handcuffs based on poor forecasting. So I think that's one. Um I think the second bit is that um again so far it's it almost appears that we are thinking of AI is a is an act of god a force majour uh someone has to train the machine someone has to make the models um and I I'm the point I'm trying to make here over
here is this that even within safety if you go to claw to clawson sonnet 2.5 and you start talking about how much you hate your life. On the second or the third one, it will tell you to call a therapist. Believe me, it has told me several times and I was not even complaining about my life. So, I was complaining about other people in my life to
be fair. So, um the the the point being that yes, safety is important. Absolutely, it's important. But, um again, we really we still we are still in that seat. And yes, there are situations and there are philosophical quandrums where you go you ask yourself how do I how do I shut off an AI? How do I how do I press the button if the robot is running
towards me to kill me? This was what we had a billionaire tech guy come into one of my classes and he said my biggest fear is a robot will run towards me and I will not be able to press the switch fast enough. And I'm saying yes that is definitely true but there are other ways in which um the the paternal example is a good example. We
do know that it is extremely easy to mess around being a parent and for some reason for 8 billion people on on the planet we seem to be s largely synchronized. Most of us are not parents because you know we are here now and our children will be here now. So we can't completely handwave things away and say this won't happen at scale. It is happening at
scale. Yes, it's tricky but I still think we are in control. >> Interesting. I asked the same question to Jeffrey Hampton. We we doing a a small project with him and because the question Jeffrey the the father of of AI and I asked him >> we have a father of AI in Cambridge as >> and I asked him how >> too many fathers >> how can we
stop it and he he said something that shocked me he said can you switch off a virus I don't understand this I'm just quoting his his feedback he said can you switch off a virus that was his answer to yes we can switch it off because I thought in my stupid mind I mean you unplug the What do you think? >> I agree. I don't think you
can. I don't think the answer is a is a switch. That's that's not the answer. The an we all have driver's license. I'm assuming. Why are you guys not running around running people over? It is because you have values and then there are laws and there are consequences. I agree that a machine might not understand the consequences but the people who are benefiting with money will probably.
>> I love the dynamics here. But now I first I want to hear from Bobby or um Slaf if they have something to to add. But I also want maybe we'll have time for one or two questions. There is a mic somewhere in the audience and uh here >> while the mic gets >> I don't know. Can you switch it on please? Yeah. >> I think there's
a gentleman there. >> Hello. Can you hear me? >> Yep. I want to ask Christo. Uh, well, dude, to me, you sound like you're full of to be honest. >> Sorry, I didn't I don't hear you well. >> To me, you sound like you I don't know. I don't believe that you really believe what you're saying. If you believe that AI is going to replace everything, then
what keeps you going? Why are you here? Why did not why did you not train an AI model, for example, which is going to speak for yourself on this conference? >> We're trying. Oh, we invited him. >> So, we invited him. Why did you decide to come here then? >> We're trying. We are trying. We are trying. And I didn't mention the word pessimism or suffering. We
are trying. We are trying. Of course. I just think there are things that are out of our control. And I fully agree with him. I mean, it's here. We have to make the best out of it. For how long, I don't have a clue. But we're trying to make the best use out of it and applying it in all these companies literally across the world. I couldn't
come up with a single business case where IIA cannot be applied today. >> Then what keeps you going? >> Sorry. >> What keeps you going then? >> I don't understand. So what is your purpose? Like if you believe that >> I think we get very much into philosophical. >> Yeah. What is the purpose? Our job is to improve company efficiency. >> Mhm. >> That's that's that's what
we do. But that would make you worse than an AI that knowing fully well that what you're doing is destroying people's lives and you go like well that's what the boss told me. >> I mean how how can you be critical about AI isn't the purpose of your life is to increase efficiency >> but isn't this what purpose of life >> isn't this the job of every
CEO? I mean if you run a company your top priority is to improve the company efficiency. >> But why are you complaining about safety? Efficiency should come first. You know what is really efficient? Losing an arm but getting over a lot of >> I want I want the art angle here as well. I I want the art angle because I see the strategy and leadership um uh
tension here but but what about the domains of art? What about the domains of of enterprise? I don't I I didn't want to say boring enterprise but >> would you like to go first or >> it's an exciting enterprise. >> So so my my message to all the people here we we we need to press the pedal. uh we need to be fast in adopting this new
technology and I would rather see us on the front line and leading the change than being left behind. So that's my message to you. >> Yeah. So personally I'm very very excited. I cannot hide it. I will start singing. Um yeah because u two things the first thing is that AI is going I expect to give me endless opportunities to iterate and to explore my future music
ideas. I cannot put it in a more simple way. Very fast, very, you know, huge, you know, sky is the limit. I I can explore anything anywhere, anytime I like. And this makes me very excited because I was struggling being not classically trained myself. You know, I I've been always dependent in my uh career from many other people. And not that I'm I will stop working with
all my beautiful colleagues, but at least I will tremendously increase the process of exploration first. And second, what makes me excited about AI and not endangered at all is that AI is going to push all my fellow creatives out of our zone of comfort. Because let's look into it. AI is uh datadriven and if we would really like to stand out if we would really to be
ahead of everything else at least for a tiny little bit few days few minutes if you like we need to come up with something new we need to express oursel in a way that we haven't it has never been done before. So this inevitably is going to push at least a tiny little bit of us out of our zone of comfort. And this inevitably is going to,
you know, um lead to a new renaissance of art. This is what I truly believe. I don't know how big it's going to be. I don't know how many people it's going to affect. I don't know how many fellow colleagues of mine are going are going to be endangered. But as a result, when I draw the line, I can promise you guys AI is not going to
kill human art. >> All right. And with that, >> can I ask you a question? Can I can I >> Yes, of course. >> Uh, we had a discussion before and I asked you how many of composers you think will disappear from the face of the planet because of AI. What was the number you gave me? I I just I believe I just answered all those composers
that are afraid to go out of their zone of comfort. They will disappear instantly because the AI will automate the process and uh whatever they are able to produce is going to be produced within you know a click.
