Well, I did that quite a lot when I moved into my first official leadership role in 2023. Okay, and to be honest, it was more like, 'What the heck am I doing here?'

My first days and weeks in the new job were exciting and scary at the same time. Exciting because I was about to start something new, and scary because I was instantly confronted with situations for which no training course could ever prepare me. Like the team's happy little accident at the daylight saving time changeover. Or how challenging it can be to say 'No' when all you want to say is 'Yes!'

Being a first-time manager isn't easy, especially when imagination meets reality. At times, it can feel like starting an entirely new job. I will use real-life examples to describe the challenges I faced as a junior manager. And I will share with you my leadership tips and tricks for first-time managers.
